Become A Bus Operator

Overview

Bus Operators are responsible for transporting our buses to and from community events, media rentals, tours, charters, and excursions. They may also operate buses for special purposes, such as shuttle services or events hosted onboard.

Responsibilities

★ Safely operate museum buses for events, charters, and excursions

★ Transport vehicles to and from storage, event sites, and maintenance locations

★ Act as an ambassador for the Society when interacting with the public, clients, and event organizers

★ Ensure buses are operated in accordance with safety standards and traffic laws

★ Report any mechanical issues or concerns to maintenance staff

★ Assist with event logistics when required (e.g., shuttle coordination, onboard setup)

Requirements

Applicants must provide:

✓ A current Driver’s Abstract (driving record from ICBC)

✓ A valid British Columbia Class 2 commercial driver’s license with an on-highway air brake endorsement

Assets (training available if needed)

  • Ability to drive vehicles with unsynchronized (“crash box”) manual transmissions (not required)
  • Previous experience driving full-sized buses, Class A motorhomes, or similar large vehicles
  • Experience operating electric trolley buses (not required)

Training & Orientation

All operators will receive orientations on each bus in the fleet to ensure familiarity. Training will be provided for those without experience in unsynchronized manual transmissions or trolley bus operations.

Note: The Transit Museum Society will retain a copy of your driver’s license and driver’s abstract for our records.
